Frequently Asked Questions, Questions, Questions...

  • What level of achievement do I need in order to join a racing club? Do I have to be of a specific minimum standard?

No. You can join at any level.

  • Do I have to live in the Preston area to join the PCC?

No you don't. If transport is not a problem its better to choose a club that's right for you rather than what's closest. For some with families it is great to have the facilities nearby. However, there is no strong affiliation with your locale. Its not like your local football or cricket club. We have members from all over the northern suburbs of Melbourne. In any case races are held all over Melbourne and its outskirts.

  • Where can I find out more about all Victorian Clubs to help make up my mind which club?

Here's a couple of suggestions and some resources. Talk to people you know that ride. Talk to the owner's or shop assistant of your favourite bike shop. Chances are they are into the club scene. Finally see the following web sites. These may help you decide.

  • I'm really only interested in track cycling and not at all at riding on the road, can I still join? (or vice versa?)

Of course. Many members are only interested in a particular aspect of cycle racing. Track racing can help level of fitness for road cycling and vice versa. Some prefer track racing purely because of the safety aspect. This is one reason we encourage all our young riders to start out on the track.

  • I only have a cheap bike, can I still join?

Of course. Just so long as it works and it is safe. You will need a properly fitting helmet that passes Australian standards. Ask any bike shop if you are not sure.

  • Do I need a PCC jersey to ride in CSV races?

No, however, there are rules about jersey colours and representation. See the web site if unsure.

  • Where can I find out more about recreational rides only?

There are a number of ways to keep up to date.

Rereational rides can be found out from CA eNews and CSV eNews posted to new members. To subscribe see this site

    See our own calendar.

Regularly check the CA and CSV web sites.

  • I am over 40 years am I more suitable to join a Veterans Club?

40, 50 or 60 it doesn't matter. I'm sure you'll be saying "I wished I started earlier." Now is the time to start! Most clubs have a good mix of ages. A Veterans club will have a higher average age. Note that a Veterans club licence may limit you to the races you are eligible to join.
